First, Ch. de la Maltroye is the largest and one of the best producers in Chassagne-Montrachet. This is the first bottle I ever had from this producer. Second, while Ch. de la Maltroye is one of the best producers of white Burgundy today, its quality was only significantly improved since 1995 after Jean-Piere Cournut primarily Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed responsible for its winemaking. This is a bottle 1996 and I’m really not sure if its quality is good enough already. Third, Grandes Ruchottes is one of the best premier cru white Chassagne-Montrachet vineyards. Fourth, while most Burgundy premier cru is at its peak at around 5 to 10 years, this bottle is already 15 years old. Has it past its peak? Finally, I personally like matured wine very much. While its primary fruit flavours are not as strong as when it is young, its developed tertiary flavours really added much complexity.
Even though I’m actually quite worried that this wine may not be good, I’m much relieved immediately when the wine is poured. The wine is showing intense and extremely complex aromas. While I was taking my tasting notes, the wine continued to release different aromas continuously. Sweet spices, dried herbs, vanilla, butter, licorice, lime, dried flower, almond, tropical fruits, mango. It just so complicated that I rather just stop writing more aromas here. In palate, the wine is quite full and with a waxy feeling. Although aged for 15 years already, its acidity is still very high. It is showing the same level of complexity in palate.
