Nuits St George is not a village that I drink often. The major reason is Nuits St George is known for its strong tannins and long ageing is normally required. Living in Hong Kong, space is so precious and I really cannot cellar too much wine. For a wine to qualify to age in my cellar must be something really good. Nuits St George, however, usually is slightly rustic and not too elegant. In addition, there is no grand cru vineyards in Nuits St George, I would rather cellar grand crus from other villages.

This bottle of Nuits St George is from vintage 1995 and is already 16 years old! Since this is only a wine of village appellation, I have some doubts if this wine is still alive.

Albert Bichot, to me, is a reliable producers. Even though I have only drunk a few bottles before, they all didn’t disappointed. Although not particularly exciting, they are all good bottles delivery quality matching their expected quality.

Upon pouring, the wine has quite intensive nose of raspberry and cranberry. Quite mouth-coating and quite intensive in palate. Although it has started to develop tertiary noses of leather and mushroom, I found the wine is still quite young with lots of fruit flavours. Tannins are still quite strong but fully integrated already. It really doesn’t taste like a sixteen years old wine!

This wine really shows how best a Nuits St-George can age!
