It’s again the time of Bordeaux En Primeur and I’m receiving emails almost everyday that tempt me to buy Bordeaux 2010.  However, just as the previous En Primeur, a lot of people started to question if Bordeaux red wine is already overpriced.

As a fan of Burgundy wine over Bordeaux, the answer is pretty obvious to me.  All the Bordeaux First Growth is already too expensive to be consumed (for investment is another matter). Buy prozac online  Even a First Growth from a lesser vintage will at least cost several thousands Hong Kong dollars.  What is even more scary is the fact that their second wines are also very very expensive!  Even a Carruades de Lafite is selling at over HK$4,000!  Are they really scare? Buy Nolvadex Online Pharmacy No Prescription Needed  Not to me if Lafite is producing around 20,000 to 30,000 cases a year.

Many Bordeaux lover may think I’m biased with what I said.  However, what’s surprised me is a friend of mine who only almost only Bordeaux is having the same view.  What is even more surprised to me is that, according to Daily Telegraph, Robert Parker is sharing the same view as well!  According to Robert Parker, both the American and European economy is very fragile now and it would be very risky for Bordeaux red wines to continue its price raise in 2010.  Even though the En Primeur is still going on, famous Bordeaux chateau such as Pontet Canet and Leoville-Poyferre seem to ignore what Parker said and continue to increase their 2010 release price.  Even so, they all sold out very fast in the Asian market.  To me, the top Bordeaux chateau is more an investment vehicle than a wine to be consumed.  Having said so, if the Chinese economy continues to be strong, it would be difficult to see what will stop these wines from further appreciation.

Even though Bordeaux First Growth really didn’t represent good value for money, I believe there are still many good quality Bordeaux with more reasonable price.  Belgrave and Sociando Mallet, for example, are selling at less than GBP300 a case.  If you want to go for something slightly more expensive, Giscours, Calon-Segur and Dom. Chevailier Rouge are also very good quality Bordeaux still within the reach of many people.  One of my favorite, Pichon Baron, still hasn’t released its price yet and I really hope it didn’t increase its release price over 2009 too much!
